Gionee F205, S11 Lite quick review: Can they take on the Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro
Gionee this week said that it aims to start the financial year strong and to that effect the company announced two new smartphones for the Indian market – the Gionee S11 Lite and F205. The phones aren’t exactly new per se since they were previously launched in China back in November. So it has taken a little over 5 months for them to make it to the Indian market. The phones have been priced in the budget to mid-range segments and will look to take existing players like the Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 Pro and even the recently launched Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 to name a few.
The Gionee S11 Lite and F205 highlight FullView 18:9 displays and tout impressive selfie cameras among other things. The former has been priced at Rs 13,999 while the latter comes with a Rs 8,999 price tag. I got to play around with both the devices briefly during the event and here are my initial impressions.
Talking about the design first, the Gionee F205 comes with a plastic rear body that curves around the edges making it easy enough to hold. The S11 Lite has a more premium look although it also sports a plastic rear panel. However, the rear panel on the mid-ranger has a reflective glassy look to it and it does look a little more appealing than the F205, at least from a distance. The moment you touch the S11 Lite you will notice smudges and that does ten to ruin the look after a while. Both the phones are incredibly light to hold and that’s again largely due to its plastic shell.

iPhone SE 2 to Have Glass Back and Headphone Jack, Leaked Images Tip
iPhone SE 2 is expected to be launched as Apple’s first smartphone in 2018 and the handset has already been subjected to several leaks and rumours. The smartphone supposed to be the successor to the iPhone SE, is possibly going to launch in May or at Apple’s WWDC this year. Meanwhile, there have been many conflicting reports surrounding the design of the handset. Now, fresh images of an alleged iPhone SE 2 units have leaked showcasing a fully built phone.
Shared by letemsvetemapplem.eu, the leaked photos show a smartphone that looks similar to the iPhone SE. However, the alleged iPhone SE 2 appears to have a glossy back panel, suggesting that it could be made of glass instead of the aluminium construction of its predecessor. This information is in line with previous reports that suggested that the handset may come with wireless charging support like the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus.
Interestingly, the images show that the Apple may keep the headphone jack intact in the iPhone SE 2, a feature that was earlier rumoured to have been removed. Also, in line with the company’s latest trend, they show just an iPhone branding on the back, without the FCC write-up.
As per the images, iPhone SE 2 appears to have major design tweaks on the rear side, but the front of the handset looks similar to its predecessor. It appears to have a similar Touch ID, display, selfie camera setup, and bezels. Earlier reports had claimed that Apple may not include the Face ID feature in the new handset.
The iPhone SE 2 may also get the Apple A10 Fusion processor that Apple debuted during the iPhone 7 series launch. Another expected feature is the support for HEIF/ HEVC media recordings. Other rumoured specifiactions of the upcoming handset including a 4.2-inch display, 2GB of RAM, and 32GB/ 128GB of inbuilt storage.
Notably, Apple has not officially confirmed any plans for the iPhone SE 2 launch. But, with several reports surrounding the smartphone, it could only be a matter of weeks before an unveiling event is announced. The iPhone SE 2 is expected to be made in India, at the Wistron plant.

Samsung Galaxy S9 Review: Should you pick the Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+?
The Samsung Galaxy S range of smartphones is, alongside the Apple iPhone range, the most iconic smartphone line-up in the world. Every year, the new Samsung flagship demonstrates the latest and greatest in smartphone technology, thanks to the sheer technological superiority in the company’s products. From the screen to the camera sensor, everything in a flagship Samsung smartphone is (probably) developed by Samsung.Since 2015, Samsung’s flagship line-up has adopted an approach of having two flagship smartphones. When this approach started with the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, the differentiating factor was the curved-edge screen. Phones were simpler back then, and that curved-edge screen was beautiful. It was a good enough reason to pick the more expensive option. With last year’s Samsung Galaxy S8 duo, the difference only came down to the size of the screen and the battery capacity. That made buying the Samsung Galaxy S8 rather uncomplicated; you were purely picking based on the size of the phone you wanted and buying the compact phone didn’t involve any significant sacrifices. With the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ things have changed. I review the Rs 57,900 Samsung Galaxy S9, with the specific intent of figuring out if it’s an option to consider over the Samsung Galaxy S9+.

Vivo Y53i with 5-inch display launched in India for Rs 7,990
Vivo had debuted the Vivo Y53 smartphone in India last year in March 2017. Now, roughly after one year, the Chinese smartphone maker seems to have brought an iteration of the phone in the form of the Vivo Y53i. The Vivo Y53i is available in India in Gold. It is priced at Rs.7990 in India, and is available through retail stores across the country.
The Vivo Y53i features a 5-inch qHD IPS display and comes with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core SoC chipset with Adreno 308 graphics. On the memory and storage front, the Y53i boasts of 2GB RAM and an onboard storage of 16GB. The smartphone is equipped with a microSD card slot to provision for storage expansion.
For picture and video lovers, the Vivo Y53i packs an 8-megapixel rear sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and an LED flash. The front facing camera comprises 5-megapixel f/2.2 aperture lens. The front facing selfie camera supports face unlock feature.
The Y53i is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is also the same operating system that powers the Vivo Y53 that was launched last year. The Y53i runs on a two-generation old version of the OS as Android 8.0 Oreo has been released seven months ago. The battery of the Y53i is a 2,500mAh battery and features 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, and WiFi for connectivity. For its price range which classifies the Y53i as an entry level budget phone, its features seem quite handy.
However, its competition in the sub-8000 budget smartphone category packs in a bit more than the Y53i. It will face tough competition from the Xiaomi Redmi 5, which comes with a taller 5.7-inch HD+ display. It also possesses a more powerful SND 450 chipset and a bigger battery of 3,300mAh. The Redmi 5 also has a relatively newer operating system – the Android 7.1.2 Nougat. It is just nine rupees more expensive than the Vivo Y53i but offers a lot more at the price.
