Amazon working on Alexa-powered smart glasses, says report

Amazon’s first wearable device will be a pair of smart glasses with the Alexa voice assistant built in, according to a report in the Financial Times. The device will reportedly look like a regular pair of glasses and use bone-conduction technology so that the user can hear Alexa without the need for earphones or conventional speakers. It won’t, however, likely have a screen or camera, although Google Glass founder Babak Parviz has apparently been working on the project following his hiring by Amazon in 2014.

The FT report also says that Amazon is working on a home security camera separate from its ever-expanding lineup of Echo devices; the product that ultimately turned out to be the Echo Look was widely assumed to be a more conventional security camera when it first leaked. Amazon’s Echo Show already lets you view the feed from other security cameras, a feature naturally pegged for the company’s own upcoming model.

“One or both” of these products may arrive this year, according to the FT’s sources, alongside updated Echo products. The regular Echo speaker has gone virtually unchanged since its announcement in 2014, and has been out of stock on Amazon for a while now, prompting speculation over a successor.

Airtel offers 4GB data per day for Rs 999

Still trying to ward of the competition from Reliance Jio, India’s telecom major has introduced a new 4GB data per day pack for its internet hungry customers. However, Airtel has introduced these plans only for a few select customers.

Subscribing to the plan will give customers unlimited local and STD calls along with 4GB per day 3G/4G data for Rs 999, a report by TelecomTalk said on Monday. The plan will be valid for a period of 28 days which gives a total of 112GB data in a month.

The Rs 999 plan by Airtel competes with Reliance Jio’s Rs 999 plan that offers 90GB 4G data for 90 days.

Other plans by Airtel include Rs 349, Rs 399, Rs 499 and Rs 799 packs that offer data ranging from 1GB to 3GB data per day.

Another plan offering unlimited local plus STD calls along with 6GB data in the month is also available for Airtel customers. This plan has been priced at Rs 899. Additionally for 4G handsets and SIM users the company is offering 3.5GB per day which will be valid for 27 days.

Reliance Jio that revised its Dhan Dhana Dhan plans offers similar plans for its prepaid and postpaid customers.

Its flagship plan, Rs 399 plan, offers customers 1GB per day of 4G internet for a period of 84 days.

Jio also has plans ranging from Rs 19 to Rs 9999 for prepaid customers and plans from Rs 309 to Rs 999 for postpaid customers.

Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 Rugged 2-in-1 Laptop Launched in India: Price, Specifications

Japanese tech firm Panasonic on Friday launched the Toughbook CF-33 – a rugged detachable laptop – at Rs. 2.7 lakhs in India. To recall, the laptop was first unveiled at MWC 2017 earlier this year.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 is touted as the world’s first laptop with an aspect ratio of 3:2 (12-inch QHD display, with a 1440×2160 pixels resolution) and is a fully rugged, two-in-1 detachable laptop.

“Panasonic Toughpads enjoy 65 percent market share in India and with the introduction of new products in ‘Toughbook’ and ‘Toughpad’ series, we aim to increase our market share to over 70 percent,” said Gunjan Sachdev, Business Head, Toughbook and Toughpad Division, in a statement.

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-33 runs 64-bit Windows 10 Pro powered by a 2.6GHz Intel Core i5-7300U vPro processor coupled with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD.

The Toughbook CF-33 also sports 2-megapixel webcam with stereo microphones and an 8-megapixel rear camera.

Connectivity options include USB 3.0, HDMI, LAN, microSDXC card slot, and headset ports.

Additional tablet configuration options include second USB 2.0 port, serial and barcode reader, smartcard reader, contactless smart card reader and fingerprint reader.

The keyboard dock has 2x USB 3.0, USB 2.0, LAN, Serial, HDMI, SD-XC and VGA ports. The Toughbook CF-33 has an IP65-rating for dust and water resistance. The laptop (with detachable keyboard) weighs 2.76kg while just the tablet part weighs 1.53kg. Further, there is an IP55 digitiser pen that provides user with accuracy while writing, working, or giving signatures.

“We at Panasonic are constantly looking to offer products that not only improve the efficiency, but enhance productivity for a number of years,” said Vijay Wadhwan, Business Head System and Solution Business, Panasonic India.

The screen of the laptop can be flipped around, detached and re-attached which keeps it functioning in all conditions.
